Healthy You Tip!

Create A Healthy Home

Don’t let dry air, allergies or faulty home heating damage your health this winter.

Here’s how:

  • Have your heating system and chimney professionally inspected. This ensures carbon monoxide (an odorless and colorless gas) is being ventilated properly. High levels can be fatal.
  • Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on every floor and change batteries every time you change the clocks.
  • If you use a humidifier, keep the humidity level below 50 percent to discourage mold and dust mites.
  • Ban smoking in the house – it causes asthma and bronchitis in children and lung cancer and heart disease in smokers.
  • Use a mite-proof mattress and pillow covers. Microscopic dust mites are a common allergen.
